Offices of the District Judges

The Magesterial District Courts are commonly referred to as the Minor Judiciary of Centre County and are composed of six District Judges' offices located geographically in such a manner as to be available to all the citizenry of Centre County.

District Judges have jurisdiction over summary offenses, matters arising under the Landlord and Tenant Act, civil claims in assumpsit and trespass not exceeding $8,000.00, excluding costs and interest, and for fines and penalties for government agencies. They act as commissioners to preside over arraignments, fix and accept bail, issue warrants, and hold preliminary hearings, as well as acting as a committing judge in all criminal proceedings. District Judges are also responsible for determining cases through the Misdemeanor III range, borough and township ordinances, and motor vehicle criminal costs.
